Do you want to make an easy syrup? That is simple! You don’t need a lot of time and you can pick up your preferred smell. In this article, I will give you tips, how you can store it in the fridge for months. Тhose kind of syrups you can use for a lot of cocktails, you can add them to a tea or coffee. It’s a great choice for sweetening cold drinks in which sugar can’t be easily dissolved.

Now I will instruct you how you can easily make a simple syrup and how you can add different ingredients to create the smell you love. I will show the perfect ratio of water and sugar. The first picture shows ginger-peppercorn and lemon-ginger syrups. They are my favorite choices.

The classic recipe is with ratio one part water to one part sugar. You can also try different smells. You should try some of these:

  • any sort of fruit you like
  • ginger
  • lavender
  • whole cloves
  • basil
  • vanilla bean
  • cardamom pods
  • chilli peppers, fresh or dried
  • peppercorns
  • lemon/lime/orange/grapefruit zest
  • cinnamon sticks

For the first step you should boil water and sugar in one saucepan. In the beginning, the consistency will be grainy, after that it will be cloudy. At the end, the syrup will be absolutely clear. Then it’s ready. This kind of syrup you can use just for sweetening a lot of drinks or coffee.

If you want to add smell to your syrup you have to read the next step:
There are two methods of making your syrup tasty. You can choose whichever you like. All of them works perfect but I like more the second one. It makes your home smells nice and the syrup smell is a bit better.

If you want to choose the first method, you should turn off the hot plate. Add the smells you want and stir it. Left it for 10 minutes or until it’s room temperature. I think it is better to leave it longer, but it’s your choice how long you will wait for the perfect smell for you. You should taste it and decide. This method is perfect for saturated smells like cinnamon or cloves.

For the second method, you should turn the hot plate down. Add the chosen ingredients and leave it to boil for 30 minutes. Stir it in every four, five minutes. This is the best method for thinly sliced ginger, chills and zest strips, things you can eat after that.

When the syrup is with room temperature you should strain it. You can put any kind of citrus zest or ginger. Leave them on a sheet of paper to dry they are very tasty! Strain the syrup into the jar. I advise you to use a glass jar because it won’t absorb the smells like plastic and you can use the jar many times. The syrup can be stored in the fridge till six moths.

Enjoy your syrup!
