Living in a small place offers a lot of benefits. Though it’s not spacious like a big mansion with hundreds of rooms, it’s lot more charming and cozy. Besides, the costs are much lower. Well, not that you wouldn’t be able to pay your bills, if you can afford to pay a couple of millions for a house, but still it’s an advantage worth mentioning.

Another great thing about small spaces is that a tiny change in the interior like placing a new rug or painting cabinet doors can have a profound impact instantly.  You have to come with something bigger if you want to redecorate one of those McMansions. Needless to say, people always strive to afford more spacious housing. It’s in our genes. A bigger house that the rest is a social symbol. It’s a statement of affluence.

On the other hand you can always make your small place look fabulous if you want to. There is absolutely no need to stop making everything you can to live in a better home. Here are some fresh decorating ideas for your small apartment.

Paint

Painting is the best thing ever to refresh a space. Besides, you can play with colours to achieve various effects. For example, bright colours make a small room look bigger that it actually is. On the other hand, if you want more associations with warm and coziness, use darker colours. But, you are not limited to painting only walls. You can paint and refresh furniture as well. Your kitchen looks old and worn out, no problem. Pick a colour and paint the cabinets’ front.

New Rug

If you live in a small space, it’s safe to assume you probably have financial issues or save to buy your own place. In such cases replacing old and stained carpeting isn’t an option. What you can do instead is to buy a few cheap area rugs online and cover problem areas. Another viable alternative is to hire an experienced carpet cleaners to remove stains and give the carpet a new lease of life.

Long Curtains

Yet another idea to trick your guests perception about spaciousness is to hand long curtains. Reach as high as ceiling allows you and hang the curtains. This will create an illusion for tall windows which on its side will make the room looks bigger.

Save space with furniture with double function. Living in a small property makes you appreciate space. Use it wisely. For example, buy a sofa that turns into bed.

Conceal

When you don’t like a feature in the interior, but you’re bound with it, don’t worry. Hide it! I have already given you few examples in previous paragraphs how to conceal pre-existing features. Here are two more. Let’s say there’s a hole on the wall and you have no intention fixing it. Instead of letting it stare at you, a hand a piece of art right on top of it. Or if a radiator is bothering you, all you have to do is to use a room divider.
