A vintage suitcase – the perfect “home” for your books
If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t f*ck them. Do you know that quote? I guess, all of you have at least one book at home, so don’t worry. If you have more than one, the situation becomes even better.
Except of books, I’m sure most of you collect they’re favorite magazine – about fashion, science, business… it doesn’t matter. What matter’s that reading it brings you joy. The only thing that’s not good about having a lot of books or magazines, is that there isn’t enough space to treasure them up. Especially if you live in a small apartment – like me.
I share the place with two girls and there’s one room for me. We don’t have a living room, so I should keep my books and magazines in my room. And, unfortunately, it’s not a big one.
So, my books “lived” in boxes on the floor for a while, when I got this amazing idea (from Internet, of course) – to keep them in suitcase. You may think that books, put in suitcase, look like I’m moving out every moment. And you’re right. In order to make it more cozy, I decided that the suitcase should be vintage.
But where can I get vintage suitcase from?
- The first thing that came to my mind was eBay. It’s the place you can buy everything. A quick search shows a list with nice retro suitcases. They’re at different prizes – from 8 to $88, so you can estimate how much are you ready to pay for it. Ok, eBay is an option. But, honesty, I’m not keen on online shopping. So, let’s see the other ones.
- Have you ever been to a flea market? In every city people organize such an event where you can buy things that are not longer offered in stores. There is a lot of useless things, but little treasures also. Everything’s quite cheap. You should check when and where in your city the flea market takes place. It’s usually once a week in the weekend early in the morning. So, get up, if you want to find your treasure. I overspleeped, so I lost the chance to find my vintage suitcase.
- Antique stores are also an option, but more expensive one. If you want to have more luxurious furniture in your home, you can check out these shops.
- Next idea I had was my grandma’s closet. She keeps there a lot of thing she won’t use anymore – clothes, shoes, cups, furniture etc. I think that’s what people call nostalgie. Anyway, I found one vintage suitcase, of course, but it was a bit worn-out/stale.
After I checked these options, I forget about my idea of vintage suitcase for a while. I left my precious books and magazines to “live” in the boxes. When one evening, when I was walking home, I saw on my street, 20 meters from my place, a wonderful suitcase – violet, vintage and looked like brand new. It was near the trush bin, but it was clean. Somebody had left it, because he/she no longer needed it. Someone not as nostalgic as my grandma. It was like a gift from the universe. I carried it with me to my apartment and immediately put all my magazines and books in it. It was my dreamed vintage suitcase. I said goodbye to the ugly boxes and my room became tidier and cozier than ever.
The vintage suitcase is also perfect for little things that you don’t want to lose, but you don’t know where to put like scissors, notebooks, pens, pencils, etc.
